When sending a signal to a reverb channel using equalizer before the reverb is a great way to manipulate the whole sound of the reverb track. There are a lot of reverbs that includes eq parameters in their settings like hp and lp filters or even give the capability to equalize the early reflections or the tail of the reverb etc.
When using reverbs without equalizer settings (sometimes even using reverbs with such settings) I almost all the time apply some equalizing before, to achieve the result I want.
One of most common things I do is to cut some of the lows and soften the highs. Also checking my mids to remove muddiness from my reverb. I finally find useful sometimes to give a broad subtle boost to some of my frequencies to emphasize the reverb where I want.
